Bilingual SEO checklist

  • Self-referencing hreflang: both pages must include hreflang tags pointing to both language versions AND themselves.
  • Canonical tags must match language: EN page canonical should point to the EN URL, FR page canonical to the FR URL — not to each other.
  • Quebec Bill 96 compliance: French content must not be shorter, less prominent, or a lesser version of the English page. Full language equivalence expected.
