Understanding the four main neurotoxins

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) — The original, most widely studied. Onset ~3–5 days, peak at 2 weeks, duration 3–4 months.

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) — Faster onset (~2–3 days), some patients report a “softer” look. Dosed at roughly 2.5x Botox units.

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) — “Naked” toxin (no accessory proteins), theoretically lower antibody-formation risk. 1:1 with Botox.

Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA) — Newer entrant, positioned specifically for aesthetic use. 1:1 with Botox.

FAQ

Are these units clinically accurate?+

They reflect commonly published dosing ranges from injector education programs (Allergan, Galderma, Merz) and peer-reviewed literature. Actual dosing is always at the treating practitioner's discretion — patient anatomy, muscle strength, gender, prior treatment history, and treatment goals all shift the number.

How is Dysport converted?+

This tool uses the widely-accepted 2.5:1 Dysport-to-Botox ratio. Some injectors use 3:1 for specific areas. Xeomin and Jeuveau are dosed 1:1 with Botox.

Can patients use this tool to estimate their cost?+

Only loosely — different clinics price per unit, per area, or per treatment. Use the estimated units to have a more informed consultation, but the final quote comes from your injector after assessing your face in person.

Why is my clinic's dosing different?+

Personal injector preference, patient population norms, and regional practice standards all vary. If your practice consistently uses different numbers, trust your own data over any generic reference.
